Wes we just finished a 7/8n2 kit for the Monson Combine, a lot of misinformation but am sorting through it. One question what color did the car originally come with; and what color was the roof? B&W pictures are difficult to guess on. I have been told that the orange came later. Thank you in advance.

Hi Wes,

I've been on this site a several times lately to use the drawings of the Strong creamery for a model I'm doing in 1/4" scale; they're a big help. In addition, my e-mail acct. got hacked a month or so ago so the attached address is my new one.

Take Care.

I wonder if you are still watching this link.... I too am building a Shearwater from plans. How did the shear clamp add on work for you? I am very interested because I am considering the same fix. Also think the deck lashings will be stronger with this add on. Thoughts? Thanks!!

Thanks for the detailed descriptions. I am still in the decision making process between the Chesapeake Lt 17 and the Shearwater 17. I like the lines of the Shearwater but the ease of construction of the Chesapeake, mostly due to the use of a shear clamp, is also appealing. How do you feel about the security of the deck lashings directly through the plywood(as with the Shearwater) as opposed to having a shear clamp to drill into? I will be building from plans not a kit.

Dan,
I am beginning to think that Eric Schade's Shearwater/Merganser hull may be the most perfect sea kayak design for day paddling.
A friend of mine, who had built six strip boats and two skin boats, built an Auk 14 and said it was the most difficult kayak he had built because of its short length and sharp curves.

I know the feeling Wes. My Shearwater has been a great boat to paddle. I started the Auk 14 to replace one of plastic boats, but the project is on hold while I spend time on the water.
